The Full Story

Rolex introduced the Datejust in 1945, and it was the first automatic wristwatch with chronometer certification to display the date in a window on the dial. From 1945 until today, the Datejust has remained an absolute classic, and this present version from 1969 with a striking black dial, stainless-steel case, fluted white-gold bezel, and not-so-common Oyster bracelet (Datejusts are typically fitted with Jubilee bracelets) is no different. The bracelet choice gives the Datejust a whole new look, a bit sportier, yet still timeless and elegant. Black dials are also somewhat rare, as the Datejust is typically associated with having a silver dial.

What we Love and What You Should Know

This Datejust is in overall good condition. The case appears to be polished and has some scratches. Behind both sets of lugs are signs of the bracelet being removed. The folded Oyster bracelet is in great condition with a slight degree of stretch. The dial and hands are clean. The crystal has some scratches. The inside caseback is stamped “I 69,” indicating it is from the first quarter of 1969. The bracelet is stamped “2 70” on the clasp.
