1950s Rose Gold Zenith Chronograph 156H

Why This Watch Matters

While vintage dress watches are often on the smaller side, this rose-gold chronograph is 38mm in diameter, and that, plus its timeless design, means that it remains as dashing today as it was in the 1950s.

The Full Story

You could almost call this one a Sleeping Beauty, it’s so well preserved. The dial and case show almost no visible signs of the passage of time, and this classic three-register chronograph is, thanks to its amazing condition and slightly larger-than-normal-for-vintage size, immensely attractive. As we always like to mention when we are able to offer a vintage watch in such great shape, the single most important criterion when evaluating a vintage timepiece is its condition, and near-flawless examples like this Zenith will only get harder to find as the years go by. The movement is Zenith caliber 156H – column wheel, lateral clutch – and again, the quality here is absolutely exceptional. The steelwork is all straight-grained with beautifully beveled edges, and like the exterior of the watch, is in a state of preservation we wouldn’t hesitate to call breathtaking, with only some very faint superficial oil stains. If you choose to have it serviced, make sure it’s by a watchmaker who will take the extra care needed to preserve the museum-level condition of the movement. Simply a stunner inside and out.
