1960s Heuer Carrera Dato 45 Reference 3147S

Why This Watch Matters

The 1960s were a period of growth and experimentation for Heuer, and the controversial date window hindered the success of the Dato 45. Nowadays we can't keep these in stock.

The Full Story

The year 1963 brought about two great lines of chronographs – from Rolex, the Cosmograph Daytona, and from Heuer, the Carrera. While both companies were early to experiment with their racing watches in the 1960s, Rolex focused on waterproofness and Heuer focused on practicality and legibility. This 3147S is the second generation Carrera with Date (the first generation put the date window just below 12 o'clock, whereas the second generation placed it at nine o'clock), and its off-center “cyclops” dial has long fascinated collectors. This watch features a slightly thicker case profile than a three- or two-register, non-date Carrera, due to its thicker Landeron movement with date function. This example has a silvered dial with matching subsidiary dial. Overall this is a great looking chronograph.
