1970s Heuer Skipper Reference 73464

Why This Watch Matters

The Skipper has become one of Heuer’s most iconic and desirable models. The defining characteristic of this watch is the colorful count-down register designed for yacht racing.

The Full Story

Heuer has always been in the business of making watches with a purpose. The Skipper’s main job was for yacht racing. The dial features a red, white, and blue sub-dial at three o’clock that counts down from 15 minutes. The sub-dial is three different colors so that one can easily track the time in five-minute intervals. This watch features a beautiful blue dial with orange hands and hour markers that really pop. This example is the first execution of this model, the later models were automatic and featured a slightly different case shape. Heuer used the same case for this watch as for the Autavia; therefore an Autavia reference number ("73463") is engraved.
